What are grid sound baffles?

Grid kits are sound baffles that slot together. 12mm PET felt panels interlock into one grid, which hangs below the ceiling on wires. One kit reads as a single sculptural piece overhead. Both faces of every panel are open to the room, and the felt softens how the room sounds.

Twelve sound baffle kits in three sizes.

Six are about 2.4 x 1.2m. Jetty is the big one at 2.4m square. The other five are compact, about 1.2m across. Each kit is one colour, in any of the 48.

Gable 2380 x 1180mm 275mm 3

Breaker 2291 x 1180mm 30 to 300mm 2
Jetty 2380 x 2380mm 290mm 3
Glade 1173mm diameter 25 to 150mm 2
Ripple 1174mm diameter 80 to 160mm 2
Canyon 1184 x 1184mm 60 to 170mm 2
Diamond 1680 x 1680mm point to point 60 to 200mm 2
Saddle 1184 x 1184mm 60 to 180mm 2

Depth runs from the top of the grid to its lowest point and doesn't include the wires. The shaped ones are where it gets interesting. Breaker curves underneath like a hull. Glade is domed. Canyon has a V-shaped valley down the middle. Ripple has rings underneath like a stone dropped in a pond, minus the splash.

How are grid kits different from ceiling baffles?

Ceiling baffles hang as separate blades in rows. Grid kits slot together into one piece. Rows suit a long run of ceiling. A grid kit reads as one object, so it suits a single spot.

What sound baffling does and doesn't do.

Sound baffling improves how a room sounds. Speech gets clearer and everyday sound feels less harsh. Here's the honest bit. Grid kits don't block sound passing through a ceiling or wall. If your own room echoes, start with how to reduce echo in a room.

For anyone comparing specs, the 12mm felt is αw 0.30, Class D, tested to ISO 354 flat on a rigid backing. NRC 0.40 is our calculation from the same data. No lab mounting matches a grid hung below a ceiling, so treat the figures as a guide to the felt, not a measurement of a hanging kit.

How do grid kits go up?

Every kit slots together on the floor by hand, then hangs from the ceiling on wires. Each kit has its own illustrated assembly PDF, free to download from its product page before or after you buy. Only the ceiling fixings need a drill.

Check the footprint against your ceiling, and allow for the kit's depth plus the drop you want. The wires are 1 metre long and come in pairs. Assemble the grid, fix a ceiling point above each wire, clip the wires to the kit with the grippers, then adjust until it hangs level. The grippers and ceiling anchors are included. Extra pairs of wires are sold separately.

Questions we get asked.

Are grid kits soundproofing?

No. They improve how a room sounds by soaking up echo. They don't stop sound passing between rooms.

Is it hard to put together?

No. The panels slot together by hand, following the free assembly PDF. Only the ceiling fixings need a drill.

What comes in a kit?

The interlocking 12mm panels for one kit, the hanging wires in pairs, the grippers and the ceiling anchors.

Are they made to order?

Yes, in the colour you choose, in approx. 10 working days.

Can I get samples?

Yes. The sample pack is up to six A5 swatches for £12.95.

How long are they guaranteed?

Ten years on the felt. Two years on the wires and grippers.
